Freezing for Spaces KC

On Tuesday we got a call from Zim Loy, the current editor of Spaces KC, asking if we’d be available for a shoot on Thursday. We were happy to do it, of course, but we never expected Thursday to be the coldest day of the year. Okay, so maybe it wasn’t the coldest day of the year, but it was still pretty dang cold.

druewithflowers.jpgWe arrived at the site before the Spaces crew with tools in hand. We had wire, vases, flowers, branches, moss, foam, glue gun, and all varieties of floral weapons – but not a coat between us. Drue had a sweater and I had a jacket, but no coat. Thankfully the shoot was indoors and Lara Hale (the managing editor) and Zim showed up shortly to let us inside.

To Work!

Cold or not, you can’t hold up a photoshoot. You have to get in there and improvise like a you’re on top of the world. Every shoot is unique and you never know what will happen. On this one we came expecting to make one large arrangement and ended up making three. “Not a problem,” I said. “I’ll make a quick trip back to the shop to pick up a few things (somehow I didn’t include a coat amongst those things) and everything will be fine.”

So, I’m sitting here with a running nose and an awful cough to tell you that almost everything was fine. Oh, don’t worry. Things came together just as they always do. We made three darling arrangements, and the photographer got some great shots. In fact, the only thing that’s not fine is me. I’m on a steady diet of pseudofed and Mucinex DM. But, even though the cold’s got me feeling on the sad side, I know that I’ll look back in March, when the pics are published, and say that it was all very worthwhile.

Stay warm, people. It’s good for you.
